Day 11: Talk to a Stranger

Practice

Talking to a stranger, for example, a mailman, an employee at a grocery store or deli, or someone you meet on your walk, from a little hello to asking a curious question about their day, and following up with another question.

You might be surprised to learn that talking to strangers has incredible benefits, from expanding our perspectives to discovering that we all have something in common. Often, when I speak to strangers, I notice some commonalities we share, and even if we won't meet again, there is a sense of connection that carries me through parts of the day.

Try it out for yourself and take note of what you notice. Especially if you don't usually speak to people you don't know. The questions can be straightforward, from something that you both came across in that moment, or a question about the day or weather—more benefits in the below resources.
