Now What?

The first month of 2026 has come to an end. Did you have plans and new habits you wanted to acquire? Maybe January brought some success, and maybe it didn't work out as planned.
Don't give up just yet.

Whether we were successful or not, we must revisit our habits and perspectives to ensure that they are sustainable for months and years to come. Before we give up and wonder if we are made for our goals, let's take inventory of what we have and know, and go from there. The question will continue to arise: "Now What?"
Often, we think that if something didn't work out, we are not meant to aim for that goal, or that we need more information, or that we should join another course. Most of the time, that's not the answer.
Most of the time, the greatest rock in the road isn't the tool or knowledge, it's the user. Unless we recognize that it's in our hands to make a change, nothing will.
Now what? is a question about flexibility and the practice of letting go:
Flexibility in taking a new turn, sharpening our tools, and being clear in what we want.
Letting go of fixed end goals, broken tools we use, and the ineffective habits we apply.
When was the last time you sharpened your tools and refreshed your memory? Maybe it isn't as much about changing and doing something new from scratch. Maybe what we need to do is revisit and adjust what we have been doing to get one step closer to our anticipated "goal." The answer is us. It takes practice to refine our habits and move in the direction that makes us feel happy.
Don't waste your time and energy on accumulating more stuff and information. It might be time to clear out and organize our closets, which will lead to greater clarity in our minds and bodies.
If you want to be in better shape, don't join a gym or class right away; first, check whether it fits your schedule, not only this month but for months to come.
If you want to eat healthier, don't buy another cookbook; see which healthier foods you can incorporate easily, and add those first.
If you want to be more connected, don't sign up for many courses; see who in your friend circle and neighborhood you could be more attentive to.
To make a long lasting and positve impact in our life, we start small, as described in the last post "Same Year, Same You, and Different 🎉" and the simpler the action, the greater the chance we will sustain it through this year and maybe even life.
Practice flexibility with what we want, and let go of the old version of ourselves to make a difference in our lives. We already possess everything we need to know to make our lives what we want them to be. Focus on what we have and get slightly uncomfortable. Sometimes that's all it takes to look in the mirror with joy.
And next time you wonder: "Now what?" Answer with another slight adjustment to your daily life to get yourself moving in the forward direction, even if it starts in stillness.
Our human existence depends on it.
